Last month Singapore authority has stopped importing egg from one of the farm in Malaysia due to Salmonella bacteria contamination!
80% of Singapore daily consuming eggs is imported from Malaysia which amounting to 1.4 billions pieces a year. The root cause is still under investigation and this has alert us the important of Food Safety !!
Salmonella, the name of a group of bacteria, is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in our daily food intake. Usually, symptoms last 4-7 days and most people get better without treatment. But, Salmonella can cause more serious illness in older adults, infants, and persons with chronic diseases. The Symptom of Salmonella poisoning include Diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps and vomiting.Salmonella can be eliminated by cooking and pasteurization process.
Beside the relevant authority monitoring, industry player must be also responsible to ensure their products are safe to be consumed. As a consumer, we MUST always read the product’s label to understand the few major items, such as Type of product, Ingredient, Nutrition label, Production and Expiry date, Halal product, Allergen ingredient etc.
